IMPACTING COMMUNITIES IN PARTNERSHIP

Anne White
Anne’s career began as a manager with Barclays Bank. Having resigned her position to bring up her family, she became aware of the disparity of wealth/health and local facilities in South Bristol compared to many parts of the northern part of the City. This led to a city wide parks campaign which she embarked on fund raising to improve parks across the city. Eventually she received a “Building a Better Bristol Award” as a result recognising her efforts. Her years of campaigning led her into local politics. Becoming aware of Hengrove Park (due to the parks campaign) she was keen to see a project that kept the integrity of the park but also provided much needed jobs in the locality. This resulted in her presenting a proposal to the Council in 1996. 11 years later, the Council commissioned Humberts Leisure to investigate the feasibility of Hengrove Park having a major tourist attraction. The outcome was positive. Her passion for South Bristol and desire to see real transformation in the neighbourhoods has seen her as one of the trustees of The Joshua Trust.  It is her dream to see South Bristol continue to improve with excellent local facilities and decent parks. The key to South Bristol’s development plan is a strong employment base that builds aspirations and self esteem amongst young people.
